Steve Jelley started working as a Direct Support Professional while he was college, and he’s never left the disability services field. Before joining Dungarvin, he worked his way up through operational supervisory positions and, eventually, transitioned into human resources. He came to Dungarvin 24 years ago as an HR manager for two state teams. Today, Steve is the HR Director for Dungarvin’s Colonial and East regions.

What do you like most about your job?

Dungarvin has never allowed me to become bored throughout my career here. There have always been new challenges, projects and initiatives that have kept me and our teams focused and engaged. It’s been a fun ride!

What attributes do you most value in a co-worker?

Honesty, positivity and the willingness to ask for help. The more we communicate, the easier our success becomes.

What do you like to do for fun?

Travel. My wife, Joyce, and I will spend several months online researching a new country to visit each year. We love learning to speak some of the basic language and some of the history and local culture before going so we can immerse ourselves in the experience as much as possible. We have learned so much about our own country by experiencing others.

What do you most value about the Dungarvin team with whom you work?

I am fortunate enough to work with some the best and brightest people. The sense of teamwork and shared commitment makes even the tougher days so much better.

If you weren’t working for Dungarvin, what would be your dream job?

I would be happily teaching elementary school history, doing my best to spark in the students a lifelong interest in learning.
