Dungarvin Oregon State Director Brenda Linden joined other community leaders and partners at a recent Multnomah County Board of Commissioners meeting to support an official proclamation recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Brenda and other attendees spoke before the board about the importance of the proclamation, which affirms the county’s commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable and accessible workplaces, while recognizing the valuable contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workforce and communities. The occasion was especially meaningful to Brenda because she represented Dungarvin Oregon, which provides Supported Employment Services for people with disabilities. She also represented the Multnomah County Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Advisory Council, for which she is the newly elected Chairperson. The proclamation highlights the importance of the ongoing work needed to remove barriers and expand meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

“At Dungarvin, we see every day how meaningful employment can positively impact the lives of the individuals we support,” Brenda said. “Employment provides opportunities for independence, purpose, connection and community participation. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue their goals, contribute their talents and be recognized for the value they bring to the workforce.”

National Disability Employment Awareness Month serves as both a celebration of the achievements and contributions of workers with disabilities and a reminder that continued advocacy is necessary. Dungarvin remains committed to partnering with other advocates to promote opportunities allowing people of all abilities to thrive.
