During the past year, Dungarvin has been celebrating the run-up to its 50th Anniversary as a national organization committed to serving individuals with disabilities and others in need of supports. It’s founding in Minnesota was followed by steady growth and, eventually, expanding into other states, including Colorado in 1991.

Dungarvin Colorado added its own celebration to the mix on May 21, when it threw a party for staff and individuals served.

Taking place at the Denver Botanic Gardens, the event honored both Dungarvin’s 50th and Colorado’s 35th anniversaries. Approximately 100 people enjoyed refreshments, speeches from organization leaders and plenty of camaraderie.

“As we celebrate today, I want to take a moment to center us in Dungarvin’s mission: Respecting and responding to the choices of people in need of supports,” said Dungarvin Colorado State Director Dee Hiatt. “That mission is more than just words. It’s something the people gathered here live out every day. And the truth is, we could never carry out that mission without a community of people who have truly made this work part of their life’s purpose.”

In attendance were Dungarvin Founders Diane and Tim Madden, CEO Lori Kress and Vice President of Operations Robert Bachicha, as well as many staff providing the direct support for which the organization has become known. As the festivities continued, a slideshow ran in the background displaying photos of people honored by Dungarvin Colorado, including Direct Support Professionals, the families they support and Host Home Services providers, who contract with Dungarvin to support individuals in their own homes.

Dee emphasized how crucial the providers are to the Colorado operation. “We have some professionals who have been with us for more than 20 years, and they are such an important part of what we do. These are the people who show up every single day with commitment, compassion and care, helping make sure the individuals we support can live the lives they choose.”

Dee also lauded the longevity of the Colorado staff — 30 percent have been with the organization for more than 10 years — and thanked each of them.  She also expressed her gratitude to the individuals and families they support.

“You are the reason we are here. The relationships we’ve built with you mean so much to us. It is a privilege to walk alongside you, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support you. Thank you for trusting us, for allowing us to be part of your lives, and for being such an important part of the Dungarvin community,” Dee said.
