Sam Nelmark joined Dungarvin last year as a Staff Accountant working in Minnesota. Previously, he worked in accounts payable positions with other organizations. Sam said he’s enjoying his time with Dungarvin so far, primarily because of the people on his team. “I like how they’re always available to brainstorm ideas and help each other, when needed.”
What characteristics, or adjectives, would people use to describe you, and what attributes do you value most in a colleague?
I think people would say I’m dependable and kind-hearted. What I value most in my co-workers is teamwork, reliability, a strong work ethic and trustworthiness.
How did the place where you grew up shape who you are today?
I grew up on a dairy farm, which taught me the importance of consistency and a strong work ethic. These values have helped me achieve my goals in life so far, and I know they will in the future.
Who are your heroes in life and why?
My parents and two grandfathers. My dad is one of my heroes because he taught me everything I know when it comes to being a man, as well as to always keep my chin up and never take anything for granted. My mom demonstrated another form of hard work and dedication; she was always working late, and it finally started paying off as I grew up. My grandfathers also are my heroes because they were both veterans of the Korean War and showed me that strength and perseverance are needed to fight through any issue life throws at you.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Going on a hike at 7 a.m. on my day off with no form of urgency. I was able to prove some things to myself at the time, and doing it at my own pace was a sense of freedom and achievement that I still chase to this day.
If you weren’t working for Dungarvin, what would be your dream job?
My dream job would be either a food critic, a candy store owner or running a petting zoo/animal sanctuary with my wife, as we both love animals.
