What do you like about working in this field?

I enjoy working with the individuals we support. I appreciate the opportunities to assist people in achieving their goals and the level of independence they desire. Daily challenges and new experiences keep the job interesting.

How did the place where you grew up shape who you are today?

My parents shaped the work ethic that I have today. My grandmothers taught me patience to be able to work with people who others might find challenging. The individuals I supported during high school when I worked at a camp for people with disabilities taught me to have an open mind and an open heart.

What do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy traveling with my family, attending my kids’ sports activities, swimming, gardening and cooking.

Who are your heroes in life and why?

My grandmothers are the heroes in my life. Both ladies lived through the difficulties of the depression. They came from close-knit families and were often viewed as the glue that held their family together.

Both were devout followers of their church and instilled the importance of the church’s beliefs in their children and grandchildren. They never met a stranger, and were willing to help their communities in any way they could.

What attributes do you most value in a co-worker?
