Regional Financial Analyst John Paul Miller joined Dungarvin in 2010. Prior to that, he was a Director for an assisted living provider in western Wisconsin. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Direct Support Professional, Program Coordinator and Program Director for other Minnesota human services providers.

What do you like most about your job?

I love working with a wide variety of people across multiple states. I especially enjoy training others to help them gain a firm understanding of our financial systems and how they impact all of us and the people we serve. I also love developing new tools to help our managers do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

How did the place where you grew up shape who you are today?

I was exposed to persons with disabilities since I was born. My father is a war veteran who lost two limbs in a rocket attack. He never let his disability get in the way of doing what he wanted. My childhood was spent partly growing up in the suburbs, partly in rural Wisconsin and partly in the culturally diverse Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul. The exposure to multiple cultures has fueled my lifelong desire to understand and learn about the different ways we all live.

What do you most value about the Dungarvin team with whom you work?

My team is fantastic! My colleague, Conor, is a smart, dedicated analyst who genuinely cares about delivering a solid product. My boss supports and encourages an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual support, which makes us an effective group of teammates who know they can call upon each other as needed.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to hike and go rockhounding and beachcombing when the weather’s nice. I also love traveling to new places. During the winter months, I spend a lot of time reading, writing, drawing, listening to audiobooks and painting. Currently, I’m in a major writing phase, publishing new adventure modules for “Dungeons & Dragons.” I also like to help others who are interested in getting their ideas printed and out there for the public to enjoy!

Who are your heroes in life and why?

I have many heroes, starting with my parents and my brother, who (despite me not always being the best older brother) has greatly succeeded in life and has a lovely family in the United Kingdom. My wife is also one of my heroes; she has overcome monumental struggles in her life to be the beautiful and most amazing person that she is. Also, my children are my heroes because they continue to amaze me as they grow up to be our next hopeful generation. I also am surrounded by the heroes I work with every day, making Dungarvin a company that does good in the world.
