A Stable Home, Understanding and Support Help Nelson Realize a Better Life

Dungarvin Nevada Host Home Provider is Key

March 3, 2026 | La'Kendrick Thompson, Area Director

Nelson is an individual supported by Dungarvin Nevada who has shown great strength and resiliency. In 2022, he came to the organization with little to no consistency in his life after the passing of his mother. Nelson had a great deal of anger, displaying aggressive behaviors regularly. He also struggled internally, not knowing if he would be accepted by others due to his preference in a romantic partner.

Not only did Nelson have emotional issues, but he also longed for friendships, family and a stable environment. In 2023, after receiving a couple of 30-day notices to move out of his home, he was introduced to his current Dungarvin Host Home Provider Mack Harris. Since then, he has made drastic improvements in every area of life. He is no longer angry, he smiles and he is more sociable than before.

Nelson has not had an incident of aggression in years. He has contact with his sisters, he has a job in which he helps animals on a ranch, and he is active in the community, attending LBGTQIA+ events regularly.

He also goes to counseling regularly, successfully completing a 12-step process at Overeats, which has helped him lose weight and control food addictions.

Most of all, Nelson has gained more independence, stability and sense of purpose. Mack and Dungarvin staff have treated him with respect, responded to his needs and given him choices. However, it’s important to recognize that it has been through Nelson’s hard work and dedication to improving his life that he has realized such great success. Dungarvin is incredibly proud of him.
