Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities
Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is an umbrella term that describes a wide range of disabilities affecting physical and cognitive functioning. IDD typically presents before the age of 22. Broadly, it is characterized by significant challenges in learning, problem-solving and reasoning; and challenges in adaptive behaviors, such as daily living skills, social interactions and communication.
Many people with IDD require some assistance to live a full and productive life – a life of their own choosing. Dungarvin provides tailored supports based on each individual’s particular needs, hopes and desires. An interdisciplinary team works together with the individual and the people closest to the person to develop a service plan that respects and honors their needs, hopes and goals.
Depending on one’s needs, and the state in which a person lives, individuals with IDD can find a variety of supports, including residential, day program, host home, hourly services, foster care, vocational/supported employment and case management.
